Interview with our Managing Director
To kick-start our blog, we had the chance to spend some time with our managing director – Dr Alan Jumaily. Dr Jumaily has been involved in the Health and Social care sectors for over 15 years and has a true passion for enhancing the lives of our residents. He took over Hazelmere Nursing Home in 2017 and since then has worked tirelessly with the help of our registered manager Simona Mehes to make Hazelmere Nursing Home a fantastic place to be for our residents.
What do you think makes Hazelmere Nursing Home so special?
I would have to say it’s our amazing team of staff who really make you feel welcome and at home. Hazelmere Nursing Home feels like one big family where no request is too much and that is the ethos we are constantly striving for. As a small nursing home, our staff have the chance to really get to know the residents and build deep and meaningful relationships with them. I believe this is the heart of delivering outstanding care.
How did you get into involved with Hazelmere Nursing Home?
As a GP with a special interest in elderly care, I saw a lot of examples of how care shouldn’t be done and I wanted to use my expertise towards improving the lives of people living in care homes. As soon as I walked into Hazelmere, I got the sense of a place where residents were at the heart of everything that was done and it just felt right. Here we are 5 years later and we have gone from strength to strength! As soon as you walk in, you see the residents smiling whilst taking part in the activities, you smell the home cooked food coming from the kitchen and you see the interaction of our amazing care staff with our lovely residents and all the hard work is worth it!!
What has been your greatest achievement at Hazelmere Nursing Home?
I wouldn’t say there is one specific achievement but more a collection of lots of achievements! The main one has to be developing our fantastic team of staff who I see making a real change to the lives of our residents on a daily basis. It was also great when we refurbished the whole home and made its appearance match the standard of care! Being involved with the local community has been great fun including our many visits from the local Mayor. This all culminated in us taking over Orchard House Care Home, our sister care home in Bexhill which is specialised in caring for people with dementia.
What next at Hazelmere Nursing Home?
We are just about to open our new wing of five fabulous ensuite rooms as well as living areas all designed with luxury, style and practicality in mind. We will also have a sensory courtyard for all our residents to enjoy as well as newly landscaped gardens to the rear of the building. This has been the culmination of 3 years of working with East Sussex County Council, our architects TJDA and main development contractor Red Key Concepts to deliver these much-needed nursing beds to the local community. I am extremely proud of what we have managed to achieve and look forward to welcoming new residents in the near future.
We thank Dr Jumaily for taking the time to be involved in this interview. If you would like any more information about Hazelmere Nursing Home, please contact us on 01424 214 988 or email us – contact@hazelmere-bexhill.co.uk
